A rock-star mesmerises audience
Avadhut Gupte, the dynamic singer, lyricist and music director came, he performed in ‘Avadhut live in concert' and he conquered every listener's heart by his music and concern for the differently able children of Swayam. Gupte's social awareness led him to perform in the fund raising show that was organised by Swayam rehabilitation centre, Thane. As Gupte was performing live for the first time in Thane, a big crowd of his fans from all age groups was cheering for him heartily.

In this show, Janhavi Prabhu-Arora was Gupte's co-singer and a group of dancers added colour with their playful, energetic dances. The show opened with Hi Gulabi Hawa and then Gupte rendered his super hit numbers such as Tujhe Dekhke Meri Madhubala, Ayushya He Chulivarlya Kadhaitle Kandepohe , Menaka Ali, Pori Jara Halu Halu Chal, Dajiba and many more that kept the audience asking for more.
Gupte has popularised 'Rock music' in Marathi. He wrote lyrics in our colloquial language which is a funny mixture of Hindi and English words. "I couldn't find any other word of that meaning," laughs Gupte. He introduced use of voice modulations for specific words that has enlightened its effect. About rock music, Gupte said, "I found the effect of aggression in rock music and it suits my mood."
In this show, Gupte sang songs of every mood. Bolayachi Himmat Nahi was a song from the film Zenda that expressed the grief of farmers which leads them towards suicide. He also sang Sang Na Re Mana and other songs from his forthcoming album. The highlight of the show was the scintillating song Jay Jay Maharashtra Maza that he sang with all the differently able children from Swayam. Gupte's concern for the children reflected in his performance.
In the cases of cerebral palsy, the whole family has to suffer physically and mentally. Nita Devlalkar, organised parents of spastic children and for the last five years running Swayam rehabilitation centre that caters the needs of special children. A film about the activities of the organisation showcased how they help the children and the relief it is giving to parents who had to run to different therapy centers for their children's treatments. Many parents shared their experiences that showed the depth of this noble work. In future the organisation aims to start day care centre for these children and advanced treatments for spastic children under one roof.
The event was graced by Mayor Ashok Vaity, MLA Eknath Shinde, MP Anand Paranjpe, A.R.Kamat, Abhijit Panse, Naresh Mhaske and Dr. Anand Nadkarni who is trustee of Swayam. Nita Devalalkar, founder and managing trustee of Swayam greeted them. A website of Swayam was launched by Gupte and a booklet with information about the difficulties of special children the proper treatments for that.
